Dave’s RVs Insurance Options

OPTION 1 (default): Outdoorsy Insurance

NOTE: Outdoorsy Insurance is REQURED if you booked the RV via Outdoorsy.com instead of DavesRVs.com.  Outdoorsy requires that every driver be pre-verified.  A link for this will be provided in the quote email.

There are 3 Outdoorsy insurance options:

  • “Basic” (default & least expensive)
  • “Essential”
  • “Peace of Mind” (most expensive)

NOTE: Outdoorsy Insurance is now a secondary “excess offering policy”, which only provides coverage for damage above and beyond the Renter’s personal insurance coverage for a rented RV.  In case of damage above the deductible, the renter must first file a claim with their personal auto insurance for coverage. Oudoorsy will then cover anything NOT covered by the Renter’s personal policy.

OPTION 2: Renter’s Personal Auto Insurance (RECOMMENDED option)

Dave’s RVs recommends eliminating Outdoorsy’s Insurance and Roadside assistance charges if your agent can provide proof in advance that they cover PLPD, Collision, and Comprehensive for a rented driveable motorhome or trailer.  This option will save you a significant amount on longer RV rental trips.

After you book your trip, we will email you a form which includes all the pertinent information about the rented Vehicle (VIN, etc.) to forward to your auto agent requesting proof of insurance.

Michigan Insurance companies that cover Motorhome rentals are: State Farm, Farmers, Farm Bureau, Auto Owners, and possibly more.

OPTION 3: MBA Motorhome Insurance (less expensive 3rd party coverage)

If your auto insurance agent does not cover you for renting an RV, you can purchase insurance directly from MBA, a trusted 3rd party Insurance Company used by Dave’s RVs for 10 years.
NOTE: You can only purchase this insurance online within 14 days of your departure.  This insurance must be secured at least 3 days prior to departure.

To sign up:

  1. For MOTORHOMES: Visit MBAmotorhome.com Enter MBA policy number: 01A304295
For TRAILERS:Visit MBAtrailer.com Enter MBA policy number: 01C405989

  4. We recommend selecting the optional “Supplemental Liability Insurance” to increase liability & collision coverage beyond the minimums required by Michigan law.
  5. We require the MBA “Roadside Assistance” option if your quote does not already include Outdoorsy “Roadside Assistance”.
  6. Pay with a credit card.
  7. Notify Dave so we can remove the default Outdoorsy Insurance from your bill.
  8. Bring the MBA proof of coverage email with you on your trip.

Trip insurance

CSA Trip Insurance is available in the US only, and not available for renters whose home state is NY or HI, or non-US renters.

Say it’s the day before the big RV trip and their daughter comes down with a nasty case of stomach flu. They had booked a non-refundable trip, and now they’re out hundreds – or even thousands – of dollars. Or are they?

By selecting our trip insurance, the renters could be reimbursed 100% of the prepaid RV rental booking cost in the event they had to cancel due to a covered event, rather than $0 as they would if they’d selected a vehicle with a strict cancellation policy.

Some trip insurance coverages include: Trip Cancellation, Trip Interruption and Emergency Assistance and Transportation

Some covered events that apply to Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption (please note that terms and conditions apply):

  • Traffic accident en route to pick up the RV
  • Onset of pre-existing medical conditions while on the trip (if certain requirements are met at the time of purchase)
  • Sickness, accidental injury, or loss of life of renter or a travel companion while on the trip
  • Mandatory evacuations, road closures, or inability to access destination due to adverse weather

Much like stumbling upon a bear in the wild, you never know when a medical emergency will present itself. Covered expenses include:

  • Emergency transportation to the nearest suitable medical facility
  • Help to return home, if medically necessary
  • Expenses for one person of the renter’s choice to visit them if they are traveling alone and hospitalized for more than 7 days
  • Injury that first occurs during their trip

File a claim by visiting www.csaclaims.com or calling 866-409-7435. Once you’ve completed your claim form and gathered supporting documentation, send your claim to Generali via email at claims@generalitravelinsurance.com

What’s not covered by insurance

Insurance doesn’t cover any damage that isn’t the result of a collision.  For example, interior damage and losses caused by mechanical failures due to a lack of maintenance are not covered (e.g. scuffs, broken cabinets, cleaning, etc). These are covered by the security/damage deposit. All renters agree to a security deposit set by the owner that accounts for any minor damage to the interior of the RV or overages.

All RVs will experience wear and tear over normal continued use and insurance does not cover any damages resulting from normal wear and tear per the guidelines below, but not limited to:

This includes all major panels and front/rear bumpers, minor dents (a depression or contouring on a single panel two inches or less in diameter) and minor scratches (less than three linear inches in length).

RV’s NOT parked in covered / garaged areas tend to experience more visible wear.

Tread: Tires must maintain a tread of 50% or more at the start of each rental. Any tires that blow-out without impact from an object are subject to inspection.

Rim: An abrasion of three inches or less in length along the arc-length or face of the rim.

Interior trim, carpet, upholstery and controls.

We do not cover any interior damage ‍that happens during a rental. If we feel that damage occurred to the interior during an active rental, this can be deducted from the security deposit once we provide documentation to the renter for the additional charges.

If the damage exceeds the security deposit or it has been used for other costs (i.e. other damage), a third-party arbitrator will work with the owner and renter to reimburse for the additional costs.  As a precaution, there is an option for a renter to add Interior Damage Protection for a reservation through Premium Services.

Windshields and windows will sustain wear over time with routine use. Existing issues such as cracks or bullseyes may show accelerated wear if neglected.  Renters should indicate any and all issues during the Departure Check-out to be held not liable for excess damage.

Not covered:

  • 1 or 2 minor chips (not in field of vision)
  • Cracks originating from a neglected chip that has increased in length or severity over time or after successive trips
  • Dry, cracked, brittle or loose weather stripping around windshield/windows due to aging
  • Peeling or nicks to window tint

We do not cover any items that are not factory installed on the RV at the time of manufacturing.

Awnings are subject to full replacement value if damaged and is the sole liability of the renter.

Per the Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations

(i) When the amount claimed is adjusted because of betterment or depreciation, all justification shall be contained in the claim file. Any adjustments shall be discernible, measurable, itemized, and specified as to dollar amount, and shall accurately reflect the value of the betterment or depreciation. This subsection shall not preclude deduction for prior and/or unrelated damage to the loss vehicle. The basis for any adjustment shall be fully explained to the claimant in writing and shall:

(1) reflect a measurable difference in market value attributable to the condition and age of the vehicle, and

(2) apply only to parts normally subject to repair and replacement during the useful life of the vehicle such as, but not limited to, tires, batteries, et cetera.

Mechanical systems and their parts experience wear over with routine driving. Vehicles that aren’t maintained to the manufacturer’s guidelines may experience accelerated wear during operation.

Drivetrain: The system that connects the transmission to the drive axles. This includes the transmission, gearbox, differential and drive shaft.

Clutch: The system that connects and disconnects a vehicle engine from its transmission system. This includes the clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel and pedal with piston or pulley system.

Brakes: The system that slows or stops a vehicle. This includes parking brake cables, park brake lever, master cylinder, brake lines, caliper, reservoir, pads, hoses, drums, rotors, shoes and pedal.

Suspension: The system that cushions a vehicle from road conditions. This includes springs, shocks and struts, linkages, bushings, control arm, leaf spring, torsion bar, anti-sway bars, tie rod and knuckle.

All vehicles require routine maintenance.  We are required to maintain the cosmetic look to the best of our ability and provide routine mechanical and systemic maintenance.

If your RV breaks down due to mechanical issues on the road, insurance will not cover any costs to the loss related to hotel, towing, etc.

However, we do offer roadside assistance to aid in the case of breakdowns.
